Ye Olde Snippets: There’s No Place Like Rome

I would much rather have men ask why I have no statue, than why I have one.

Cato the Elder, historian and senator in Ancient Rome, came out with this smart response after he was asked why he didn’t have his own statue when so many other people did. Cato certainly deserved one – his importance as the first major Latin writer helped it supersede Greek and become the main language in the Roman Empire.
